In 1994, more than a million people were killed in the Genocide against the Tutsi. Today Rwanda is known for peace, safety and unity, and memorial sites help visitors understand both the tragedy and the recovery.
The Kigali Genocide Memorial is the main site, with exhibitions, gardens and mass graves where over 250,000 victims are buried.
