Gorilla habituation is the process of slowly getting a wild gorilla family used to human presence. Visitors join researchers and trackers on this work in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the only place in the world that offers it.

Instead of the usual one hour, you stay with the gorillas for up to four hours, watching them feed, play, groom and rest while learning how rangers and researchers work.

Where to do it

  • Rushaga sector, southern Bwindi
  • Nkuringo sector, southern Bwindi

What to expect

  • Early start with a briefing at the park office
  • Trek through thick forest that can take several hours

Good to know

  • Habituation permits are limited, so book months ahead
